Here is my open letter to Bastrop County.
Observation: Taxpayers attend Commissioners Court Meetings and etc., break and go home.
A bunch of individuals, with no real connection to each other. Everyone we home to their on little nest, hoping someone would "do something."
Bastrop is broken up into 4 Precincts, which have changed frequently. Most people I talk to don't even know what Pct they are in or who is their commissioner.
Bastrop County has three major "townships" Elgin, to the North, Bastrop, central and south and Smithville to the east.
There is a common cause which could bring all of these locations to form a cohesive association to bring pressure on the ignorant Commissioners. But it did not happen.
In the early 80's I forced the County Commissioners to put to a vote an increase in a property tax for a hospital district. *
We beat it 2 to 1. Whether or not you think that was a good outcome on not, is not the question.
If this County doesn't speak with one voice, you will continue to be screwed by corporate interests and their political lackies.
* That tax was for.....drum roll...... .25 cents per hundred dollars property evaluation. Maybe someone might figure out how many millions of tax increase taxpayers would have spent over the last 43 years.
